The long awaited day, Saturday 9th June arrived and over 500 children and parents from the parishes throughout the Derry and Raphoe Diocese descended on Limavady Leisure Centre. Prayers had been answered and thankfully the sun shone. As everyone queued for drinks and refreshments on arrival, there was a buzz of excitement and expectation in the air.
The organisers from the Action and Outreach team, Jennifer Given and Anita Hill had, with their team members, meticulously planned a wide and varied programme of events. These included a Party with Tumble, Buddy the Clown, Kids Ahoy, bouncy castles, puppet shows, craft, swimming and sporting events. Each event was supervised by members of the Mothers’ Union, Youth workers and volunteers from throughout the Diocese. Laughter and smiles were the order of the day, and a wonderful shared experience of family fun and friendship was enjoyed by everyone. Sincere thanks is extended to everyone who helped in any way with the supervision of these events.
Many thanks to the ladies from North and South Sperrin for providing the scones and traybakes for morning coffee and afternoon tea, and to the ladies working in the kitchen and serving refreshments. Thanks also to the men and women of Tamlaghtfinlaghan and Dungiven who prepared the barbeque in the heat of the midday sun. Everyone was served in a short space of time. Great time management and the burgers were delicious too!
Thanks are also due to the staff of the Roe Valley Leisure Centre for allowing us to use the venue and for their co-operation and help in the organisation of the Funday.
At the end of the day Canon Harold Given gave a short talk and Bishop Good presented prizes to the children for the colouring competition.
