Our Festival Service this year will be very special as we celebrate our anniversary. It will be held on Wednesday, 20th September in Strabane Parish Church at 8pm. Our guest speaker will be Lady Christian Eames, who has held the position of Diocesan President here in Derry and Raphoe, as well as being both All Ireland and Worldwide Presidents.
MU Choir for Festival Service
To help make this service extra special, we would like to organise a MU Diocesan choir for the event. That means we need all singers to come along! We would love to have at least two members from every branch, but you can bring as many as you like! There will be three practices for the service in each end of the Diocese and we would ask those who can to attend these. Ballykelly Parish Church on 14th June and 6th September OR
Strabane Parish Church on 15th June and 7th September and then everyone at a combined rehearsal on 14th September in Strabane Parish Church. Please give your branch leader your name so that we can make sure you are kept informed about everything to do with our choir for the service.
One other thing we would like to do is compile some photographs of MU past and present to show on the night. We would appreciate you help in getting photos to Brigid no later than the 1st September so that we can organise them for you all to enjoy on the night. We will ensure to get these returned to you afterwards, so please write your branch name and the event and date of the photo on the back of each one.
One way we want to mark our 130th year in the Diocese is to publish a book. This is to be about various ways MU in Derry and Raphoe has made a difference in people’s lives over these years. We need stories from you which show that MU has made a difference. Do you know someone who has been impacted by the members or the work of MU in some way? – Perhaps they were new to the community and were welcomed, in hospital or in need and our members met that need, widowed or grieving and MU stepped in to help or have you been impacted by one of our projects, etc? Get in touch, we need your help. Please contact Mary Good, Brigid Barrett or your branch leader to offer your story. You don’t have to write it, but please tell.
